Close to 100 audio professionals came out to play at the 15th Annual TEC LA Open Golf Tournament, held on May 17, at the Malibu Country Club, Presented by the TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio the ever-popular event was sponsored by Guitar Center Professional. It was a fun day for all, filled with chair massages, sake, barbecue, and some golf thrown in!

The event was presided over by Honorary Chairman Al Schmitt, who was joined on stage for the evening’s festivities by Master of Ceremonies Ed Cherney. Sponsors included Focusrite Novation, Iron Mountain Film & Sound, Ocean Way, Record Plant, Shure, PMI Audio and the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy.

The winning team, with a score of 58, was Avid/Apple (Tom Graham, Andrew Wild, Mike Franklin and Clint Ward). Along with their first place trophies, the team was also awarded four Sterling Audio ST55 large diaphragm condenser microphones, donated by Sterling Audio. Second place went to newcomers Iron Mountain (Guy Abrahams, Jeff Anthony, Jeff Beaulieu and Gabriel Seqovia) with a score of 60 winning in a card-off with a low-back 9; and coming in third was Team Ed Cherney (Cherney, Ken Gradney, Frank Pirruccello and Jerry Kanter) with a score of 60.

Contest winners included Jeremy Umland (Longest Drive), Dave Reitzas (Closest to the Pin), and Ed Cherney (Longest Putt). The putting contest was won by Paul Camarata. The day concluded with a dinner and awards presentation, along with a raffle and silent auction.

Auction items were donated by American Music and Sound, Antares, Apogee Electronics, Artesa Vineyards & Winery, Audio-Technica, Avid, Earthworks, Lobster.com, Ozumo, Sennheiser, Shure, Sonoma Wine Garden, Taylor Guitars, Shure, and Universal Audio, among others. The event was organized by KMD Productions.

Proceeds of the tournament support the House Ear Institute’s hearing health outreach services for audio professionals and the TEC Foundation’s TECnology Hall of Fame, recognizing the most historically significant audio innovations and inventors, held annually at the AES Convention.
