Boots Randolph
Boots Randolph was the capable saxophonist who proved the instrument could serve a vital role in both rock and roll and country music. His sax can be heard on a range of recordings in which he was both leader and sideman. His “Yakey Sax” hit brought a renewed energy and interest to the saxophone in popular music. Elvis Presley often showed his support of Boot’s abilities, giving the sax man a series of long solos on several noted Presley recordings including “Return to Sender” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.” Boots later became a regular at industry meetings and trade shows. In fact, his NAMM Oral History interview was completed during the Nashville NAMM Show on July 19, 2003.
