Carl Lieberman has a fascinating career as a piano technician. Not only does Carl tune and maintain the pianos for recording studios in Southern California, for over 50 years he has provided this service for the Princess Cruise line. His parents owned the first Yamaha piano store in the United States, where Carl had access not only playing the instruments but learning to tune and repair them. He tuned pianos for many of the clubs in Los Angeles including the Roxy Theater and the Troubadour. Working for The Village Studios in Santa Monica, Carl lent his skills to hundreds of recordings including three Elton John records. While being a beta tester for CyberTuner, an electronic software to aid with tuning, Carl enjoyed sharing his knowledge at the Piano Technicians Guild meeting, which he has now done for decades with the goal of encouraging the next generation.
