John Schauer grew up in Indiana where his father offered him some sage advice; “if you listen, you will know what to say.” The quote stayed with John as he developed a career in the music industry. In 1987 he joined the Yamaha team in the corporate communications department. He was always listening to others for clear understanding on what to say and do. He prepared presentations to inform their dealers about the product line, and then would have the chance to present the materials to dealers and listen to their feedback. This attention to detail led to a series of promotions and the opportunity to work on special programs such as Skip’s Music Expo and the NAMM Show (beginning in 1987). Luckily for our industry, John took his dad’s advice.
