Mark Kortschot
Mark Kortschot is a Professor of Engineering at the University of Toronto who was approached by Guy Légère with an interesting idea in 1997. Guy wanted to make a synthetic reed for the clarinet from oriented polymers, but needed some help obtaining and working with these high-tech materials. Mark immediately saw the potential, and the two formed Légère Reeds Ltd. in 1998 after showing their reeds at ClarinetFest. Since that time, Mark and Guy have developed a whole family of synthetic reeds for single and double reed instruments, which have been embraced by amateurs and professionals alike.
