Peter Goodrich grew up playing piano and got into the music business when he began a job at Lyon & Healy as an assistant to the manager. He got a chance to go to the harp factory and learned all about harps and the mechanisms inside of them. It turns out that Lyon & Healy was located in Steinway Hall in New York City, adjacent to the famed piano makers Steinway & Sons. When an opening appeared at Steinway, Peter applied and got the job. Peter stayed with Steinway for many years working in both the Institutional Sales Division as well as the Concert & Artist Division until his retirement in 2010. He experienced a great amount of history during his time at Steinway & Sons and shared many interesting details during his 2021 NAMM Oral History interview.
